| Nearly one year after diamond house Dalumi and the late Gianfranco Ferre agreed to create a million-dollar diamond-studded top for Milan's fashion week (Spring 2007,) the one-of-a-kind creation is to be auctioned in Dubai during December.
While the top eventually made its way to a number of shows, it was originally worn on the catwalk by the British model Skin with a pair of tuxedo pants and a silk cape.
The top (pictured) is covered with more than 900 diamonds mounted in white gold, (more than 300 carats in total) and holds an estimated retail price of about $1.42 million.
Six months before his death, Gianfranco Ferr? was said to have entrusted the top to a company that would concentrate exclusively on the diamond item in December 2006. A sole embroiderer was dedicated to the hand-sewing of diamonds, one by one, onto the cut fabric.
“We are particularly proud of this project with Gianfranco Ferr?,” said Yuval Kemp, Dalumi marketing and business development manager. “Thanks to the sum total of our know-how and technologies, his design talents and creativity, we’ve produced something really unique and amazing, definitely able to make a lasting, irresistible, even inspirational impression.”
Massimo Macchi, CEO of Gianfranco Ferr?, added that the partnership with Dalumi represented an excellent co-branding operation that was carried out to the highest level. “While we surely embarked on this ‘adventure’ primarily for communication and promotional purposes, without a doubt the project’s distinctiveness and appeal form the ideal conditions for hypothesizing other similar efforts together.”
