We’re now well into 2009 and the recent trend of people getting excited about and suppliers eager to supply replicas of famous engagemnet rings.  So I thought I’d sober up the web and let you all know about the history of famous engagement rings.

In 1447 Maximillan I of Austria proposed to and gave the first diamond engagement ring on record to his wife to be, Mary of Burgundy.  The engagement ring he had designed was commissioned with the simple purpose in mind to unite their two family houses and symbolize their marriage a unifying event for the country.

In 1518, the smallest ever diamond engagement ring was designed and given to Princess Mary who then many years later married to the Dauphin of France. Princess Mary was only two years old at the time the ring was given.  Strange but true!

Throughout the history of marriages and jewelry there are many stories of expensive and celebrity diamond
engagement rings.  Over the time, these engagement rings have become bigger, more lavish and often include a significant range of variety of other gems and precious metals.

So, if your looking to emulate your idol and want to buy a replica famous engagement ring, firstly make sure
you know the background to the story else your notion of romance could end up with an embarassing twist.

If you looking to buy a loose diamond then take this simple advice from us today.  Ensure you purchase the best quality diamond you can afford.  That is point 1, it’s simple and straight forward.  Don’t regret in years to come that you should have spent that little bit more.

Second important point, don’t buy loose diamonds just because they’re on some amazing discount. Most of the time these special offers are little more than sales messaging and in the end rarely result in real
benefits. Bear in mind that diamond prices are measured and controlled by international market climates such as demand and supply.

Do not confuse a diamonds carat weight with the size of a diamond. Even though two diamonds may have the same carat weight their appearance in size and diameter measurements can very greatly. A poorly cut 1.00ct

diamond may look like a 0.75ct diamond from the top because they have the same diameter measurements even though their carat weights are different.

If you’re buying a loose diamond for an engagement ring is can be a scary activity since there’s thousands of jewelers, dealers and especially a huge number (and growing every day) of online diamond stores.  Search
the web for all the information you need to be best informed about what you want to buy and what you should expect for the money your going to invest. This is probably one of the most important thought processes and actions you should make before you make the big step of buying a loose diamond.

We regularly give our readers tips on care and maintenance for diamond rings. Today I’m offering tips on revitalizing your diamond ring the easy and fast way. Firstly its important to set a routine for regular cleaning else you’ll soon pick up bad habits and before long your sparkling bling will be a dull glimmer of its former shine.

If you can afford it, then take your gems to a professional cleaner who will employ methods such as ultra sonic technologies to bring your diamond back to its former glory. If your pockets are not so deep then look to a simple home DIY cleaning routine using a simple soft bristle brush (an old toothbrush will suffice) and a mild soap and water mixture. First step is to soak the diamond ring in the soapy cocktail for a few minutes so the dirt softens and loosens. Then use your tooth brush slowly and carefully brush at the dirt. This gentle action must be soft so not to scratch the diamond surface or the metal setting.

You should repeat these two steps until the ring is revitalized and refreshed, glistening and sparkling under natural light. Cleaning your diamond jewellery is better and easier of you use specialist brushes designed for diamond cleaning. You can pick up these brushes relatively cheaply at your local online
jewelery store.

I came accross this story a week ago and just had to share it. It begun in January this year with a very expensive engagement diamond ring, a restaurant, a toilet and a plumber. I’m sure you get where we’re going with this.

An excert from the MSNBC website:

It took a plumber to retrieve a woman’s 7-carat diamond ring after city workers failed in efforts to flush the gem out of the pipes of a restaurant toilet. The $78,000 engagement ring fell from Allison Berry’s hand when she flushed the toilet in the restroom of The Black Bear Diner on Jan. 14. The ring plopped in and the water whisked it away, said Elena Castelar, the restaurant’s shift manager.

Roberts guided a tiny video camera into the pipe with an infrared light attached. He eventually spotted the ring just 3 feet down and 5 feet over from where it was flushed. Then it took an hour-and-a-half of jackhammering and pipe removal before Roberts and a technician could recover the ring, eight hours after it fell in the toilet.

“They always say diamonds are a girl’s best friend. In this case, a plumber is a girl’s best friend,”

Roberts said. “She was just so excited, she had tears in her eyes. She gave us a hug and said ‘Thank you so much.’”

So, a lesson to be learnt here I think, if your going to wear very expensive dimoands, make sure you get the correct size setting, and whatever you do, be careful in public washrooms.

Much folklore has been written about the Hope Diamond, one of the most famous loose diamonds in the world.

The story goes something like this, according to legend, the Hope Diamond originally decorated the forehead of an Indian idol. Measuring over 45 carats, the gem was unmistakable for its blue-steel coloring. The loose diamond was stolen by Hindu priest, the intention was never known. The poor priest, upon being caught in possession (a famous 45 carat diamond is not easy to pass off) he was arrested, tortured and executed for the crime. The Hope diamond was never returned to its original place and since then every owner has befallen tragedy.

The Hope Diamond, also known as “The Remarkable Gem” is believed to carry this deadly curse imbued upon every owner. After the priest death, the next recorded event took place in France in 1642. Whilst in the ownership of a French trader and smuggler called Jean Babtiste Tefernier tragedy was visited upon him.

After reaping a sizable profit from its sale, he then allowed his son to spend and waste most of the money. While later traveling to India try and recoup some money Tefernier was attacked by a pack of rabid dogs died.

There are many more gruesome stories about one of the most famous loose diamonds, but for now lets just marvel at its loose diamond beauty.

The mystery, the magic and the muse, three words with which to describe the traditional Three Stone Diamond Ring. I’ve heard people explain that the three stone ring celebrates the past, present, and future of a relationship which is why it’s often recommended as a perfect anniversary gift.

However you look at it, the three stone diamond ring is rich in symbolism being that it’s the perfect anniversary or special occasion gift that expresses the timelessness and romance with your partner. At Diamond-USA we’ve also supplied many of this ring design for use as incredible engagement rings. They’re perfect for capturing the heart of your loved one at that marriage proposal moment that will stay with you forever and forever mark the beginning of an eternal bond.

The traditional symbolism for three stone rings is that each gem represents a different phase of the couple’s relationship: their past, present, and future. There are other variations, however, that can be
lovely sentiments for anniversary rings, such as “you, me, and us” or “today, tomorrow, and always.” A couple with children may choose a three stone ring to represent “husband, wife, and family.” These rings are suitable gifts for any anniversary, but they are frequently given for longer-lasting marriages that have reached their tenth, twenty-fifth, or fiftieth anniversaries.

- The final cost of a replica famous engagement ring will ultimately depends on the quality of gems used and the metal of choice in reproducing the ring.
