Working with Insurance companies can become very tricky when it comes to replacement of lost or stolen

jewelry. We hope the following tips will help you make the right decision on why, what, how and how much to insure your diamonds for.

After you’ve chosen a beautiful piece of jewelry, your next decision should be how to protect it.  The standard homeowners policy provides only limited coverage for jewelry, often excluding breakage or loss. With specific jewelery insurance you’re completely covered.  What diamond jewelry insurance generaly covers;  loss, theft, mysterious disappearance and damage.

We suggest periodic inspections of your insured items. Why, you ask? There are two major reasons.

1. While insurance does not cover normal wear and tear of your jewelry, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that during inspections, your jeweler can identify small problems – such as loose stones, worn prongs, and faulty clasps – before they become bigger ones.

2. Most jewelry values increase over time, so routine inspections are important for maintaining current values and adequate insurance limits. (Inspections also are a great opportunity to have your jewelry cleaned)

The cost of insurance is based on the jewelry’s retail replacement value and the state and county where theperson who wears the jewelry lives.  We advice that if you’ve not already got your bling covered, that you start shopping around for prices today!  Better to be safe than sorry, better to spend a little in protection than face a huge bill for replacement.

Fine, expensive and fragile jewelry are precious possessions that should be designed and crafted to last a lifetime. The best way to keep you rings and jewelry clean and looking good is to clean them gently and often using a simple process such as the one outlined below.

1. Clean the sink
2. Soak your diamond ring in the sink half filled with warm water.
3. Fill a small bowl with window cleaner or non-bleach cleaner.
4. Place the ring from the warm water in the sink to the bowl
5. Allow the ring soak for 10 minutes.
6. Use an old toothbrush to gently scrub the diamond ring
7. Refill the sink with clean warm water and soak the diamond for 5 minutes
8. Again gently scrub the ring with the toothbrush, wlthough now under a flow of cold water.
9. Rinse using warm water.
10. Repeat, if necessary, until you achieve the brilliant sparkle you deserve.

Topical issues always interest us here at Diamonds-USA, as does finding new and innovative reasons to produce new and exciting pieces of jewelry.  Whilst researching for some ideas for a new range of mens engagement rings I came accross an interesting opinion piece about just that.  Should gay men enter the fray of excitment about giving and receiving diamond engagement rings.

If your interested in the topic, then I urge you to read this article and make up your own mind.  Personally, I think there’s nothing more stunning and significant than attaching a thing of eternal beauty, made of one of the toughest materials on the planet, to a wedding and marriage that should promote those exact characteristics.

In short, a gay marriage without a diamond is like a wedding dress withouth shoes

It’s the year 2009 and we’re now in an age where same-sex commitment celebrations have become natural in many socienties. Diamonds are a symbol of love and commitment all over the world in every culture, so lets not create new barriers to acceptance. This is just my opinion, but if something brings you joy and is entirely appropriate for an occasion, then heck, go for it and make your day as special as it can and should be.

Last month, it was Oscar time yet again. The one night in the year where celebrities never wear their own clothes, instead being fought over by some of the worlds leading designers who literally pay to give their clothes away in the hope of a photo opportunity with a big name celebrity. Alongside the stunning gowns, shoes and accesories, journalists always look out for the most sparkling, expensive and outragous jewelry.

This year was no different, our winner of the night was an incredible rough and polished diamond sautoir necklace designed by L’Wren Scott and worn by Nicole Kidman.

The wonderful piece of jewelty was worn throughout the evening by Kidman as she was one of the leading event hosts for the night. The necklace contained over 7500 gems (7645 to be precise) including a range of rough, faceted, and polished diamonds. The creator estimated the total weight of the diamonds was just under an amazing 1400 carats. The incredible design and structure needed over 6200 man hours to complete.

What can we say apart from lucky lucky Nicole. However I’m sure she was heartbroken enough (and so  punished enough) to have to hand back the necklace at the end of the evening.

Current Formula 1 World Grand Prix Champion Lewis Hamilton was watched by millions of viewers all year as he motored to his first championship win. One race, however stood out as the one with the most sparkling perormance (litteraly).  During the famous street circuit at Monaco British born Hamilton wore a simply sparkling diamond encrusted helmet

Throughout the gruelling 77 laps around Monte Carlo’s famous winding streets, the bling bling helmet assured his fans a standout performance.  The race itself helped him on his way to be the first British winner of the F1 championshp since Damon Hill (now over 10 years ago)  The helmet  was provided by a sponsor of the McLaren Mercedes team.
